Other Symbols of Israel – Yarmulke and Chai

YARMULKE — Yarmulke from Yiddish (Kippah) is a Jewish head covering. In the Eastern cultures it is a sign of respect to cover the head during prayer.

Chai

CHAI — The Hebrew word Chai means “Life”.  The Chai symbol is usually seen on necklaces and other jewelry. It depicts two Hebrew letters Het and Yud attached to each other. It focuses on the importance of life in the Jewish culture. The numeric value of the word Chai is 18 and many donations are given in multiples of 18 to wish someone a good life.
